Hello,
Guess what-- Purr Data was accepted as a mentoring organization
for Google Summer of Code 2018! This is a program where we mentor students
who code up new features and improvements to Purr Data, in a program that
runs roughly from May to August.

I'd like to invite people here to become mentors.

Now, I know most people will instantly think they couldn't possibly have
the knowledge necessary to become a mentor.
So I added an idea to the bottom of the list of projects with that in mind:

If you notice, it is possible to complete that project
using only Pd as the programming language. In other words, if you know you're
way around Pd well enough to suggest how to structure and create
such a library, then you possess enough knowledge to be a Purr Data mentor
for GSoC.

Additionally, I would invite people to suggest similar types of project ideas
that only require the Pd language in order to complete. And if that project is
within your area of expertise, consider becoming a GSoC mentor for Purr Data.

Finally, if you are interested in participating as a student consider applying
for GSoC-- the application process for students begins March 12.

Last call for student applications for Purr Data GSoC. The deadline is March 27 16:00 UTC.

If you are a student and would like the chance to get a stipend over the summer to write Pd patches, put an application in:

When you say "write Pd patches" that doesn't sound to hard and i've looked at the list you linked to on the github.

I'd like to recommend a few of my students to register but none of them no much programming outside of Pd. What sort of a level and knowledge of languages is a prerequisite for applying?

@polyphuckin I believe there are a few project ideas listed that only require knowledge of Pd as a programming language. However, the deadline is... today.

Students can choose their own project ideas. There are quite a few handy abstraction libraries I can think of that would make interesting projects. As far as knowledge-- it's a 3-month coding period so the project needs to be ambitious.

@jancsika I presented it to some of my students and neither of them thought they would be suitable. There's only so much encouragement I can give them.

If there ends up being an extension, i'll try again.

@polyphuckin No extensions, but it's definitely something to keep in mind for future Purr Data GSoC participation.
