I just installed pd-l20ork on to a lubuntu box, and am just noodling around trying to get a feel for it (used to be a max person).

Is it possible to listen to music (audacious) and have the DSP going in PD at the same time ?

I guess it has something to do with ALSA/jack/ or something.. but I'm only able to have one source produce audio at a time.
I would just like to route both audio sources out the same output at the same time.

Any hints ?

With ALSA, Pd takes control of the output so that no other programs can use it. (Or vice-versa-- if another program is using ALSA when you start Pd, Pd will report an error that it can't connect to ALSA.)

If you use Jack with Pd, then you can route both Pd and audacious to the output and Jack will take care of things. I think there's a plugin to make audacious work with Jack but I don't have experience using it.

There's a graphical program called qjackctl which you can use to route the output of both programs and save the configuration.

There's no way I know of currently to share the output with zero configuration. The possibilities I can think of are:

1. Add a pulse-audio backend for Pd (hard)
2. Add an "ALSA lite" backend that somehow places nice with Pulse (probably also hard)
