GEM is a big part of my synthesis toolkit, and it suddenly started freezing up. Specifically, it happens when I try to open a gemwin or engage DSP.

I'm on a Mac (Sequoia 15.7.5) , and I know about the OpenGl deprecation, but am curious why I'm only having problems now.

I thought updating my system, updating pd, or reinstalling GEM would work, but nothing. In fact, the current version of GEM in the external library crashes my pd entirely.

Is anyone else having issues? Any advice?

Also, what did you update first that caused the problem?
I an not using OSX but someone might have an idea.
If you can narrow down the problem you might find answers here...... https://github.com/umlaeute/Gem
And especially here.... https://github.com/umlaeute/Gem/issues/541 which is new and could get some feedback...

I don't think time machine can roll back updates. I did check the issues github and am at least reassured other have had similar problems recently. I already tried downloading the older build but this didn't work. In fact this is the build that crashes PD immediately upon opening a patch. As far as compiling it myself, as the Git thread mentions, I am not exactly sure how I would go about this.

A couple things:

I experimented with order of operations: I can edit and even create a gem window if DSP is off. But I can't do both. DSP and gemwin together simply freeze everything.

The extension Gem.d_fat is being treated as either unsafe or unrecognized and I can not proceed without moving the extension to trash. Of course without it, seems like Gem doesn't work at all.

At this point, I'm looking for options other than GEM. If there is any more insight it's much appreciated!

I forgot to mention I keep getting this message when I reinstall:

"Unable to fetch reference SHA256"

After my latest reinstall attempt, when i open patches most of my Gem objects are missing. Assuming it's related to the above error.

I think you will have to wait for the new signature, but you might be able to set your computer time to earlier (when the certificate was still valid) to do the install of a previous version. Then allow automatic time updates again but not allow Gem updates until you see the issue resolved.
But that might break other things... research it first...

If you open an account with Github then you can post on the issue thread, and get email notifications when the thread is updated.
Once logged in you can also search threads...... so it is worth having an account anyway.

it might be worth following the instructions in https://github.com/umlaeute/Gem/issues/541#issuecomment-4354638261 though.
