The "install" version certainly works in every respect in widows7.
I have seen someone from this forum using it in widows10.
I run various flavours of vanilla on the same machines as "run anywhere (-- portable)" without conflicts.
If you already have vanilla, then it's probably best to use the run anywhere version of extended.....
... just dump it in a folder on the desktop (or elsewhere) and keep its folder out of the path of any other version. You can have other folders (containing your patches) in the paths of many versions though......
Extended and vanailla do not share their preferences.
Different versions of vanilla do.....
i have limited experience on windows and don't have a machine with it installed. this is really about sharing patches with people that don't use pd and use windows.

is the vanilla zip version from:
http://msp.ucsd.edu/software.html
the run anywhere version?

what i would like to do is create a folder with pd-vanilla--v-0.48.1 and add externals to the extra folder.

along with a batchfile to load appropriate ones automatically, and add a -open mainpatch.pd to startup also.

could i use the .bat file from pd-extended with the vanilla version like this?

pd.bat

pd-0.48.1_windows_xp_or_later\bin\pd.exe -noprefs -font-face "Lucida Console" -lib Gem -lib cyclone -lib zexy -lib creb -lib cxc -lib iemlib -lib list-abs -lib mapping -lib markex -lib maxlib -lib mjlib -lib motex -lib oscx -lib pddp -lib pdogg -lib pmpd -lib sigpack -lib smlib -lib unauthorized -lib pan -lib hcs -lib jmmmp -lib ext13 -lib ggee -lib iem_anything -lib ekext -lib flatgui -lib chaos -lib zexy/0x260x260x7e -lib zexy/0x2e -lib zexy/0x3c0x7e -lib zexy/0x3d0x3d0x7e -lib zexy/0x3e0x7e -lib zexy/0x7c0x7c0x7e -open mainpatch.pd

i have no experience with any of this whatsoever.

This will be the one you want........ http://msp.ucsd.edu/Software/pd-0.48-1.msw.zip
Then you will need to "deken" all the libraries that you need.
Most should work.
GEM is the huge stumbling block. Although it can be made to work it is very difficult, some abstractions will fail, and the necessary build will "depend" on the machine you are building for.
Yes, you can start up with a batch file, or just a shortcut with all the switches and paths built in will work.
EG......... here is my shortcut "target" for 0.47-1 with Gem......

"C:\Users\David\Desktop\Pd Vanilla\pd-0.47-1.msw\pd\bin\pd.exe" -lib C:\Users\David\Desktop\dot\0.94-test3/Gem -font-size 10 -font-face "Consolas"`

The problem with batch files and shortcuts is always going to be how to tailor them to the users name.
It can be done, but I remember it changed slightly after XP.
I can come back to you with help for that, but it might be only in a few days.
You can use variables like

%USERPROFILE%

instead of "C:\Users\whatever" and "Desktop" is I think now uniform (it's a hidden variable) across languages (which I remember it was not in XP..... or maybe that was windows 2000 or NT...... aargh).....
And you can use some user interaction to set other variables as well.
David.

and there is no rush on any of this i am just curious to see if it can be done. and if so what it would require.
I played around a little....
Without your batch file pd.exe runs fine, but with no libraries and this error......

Giving the full path to Pd in the batch file solves this....... but that will not be practical.
The font you selected gives unpleasant rendering on my machine.... I removed it afterwards, but it does work so you can put it back in you wish.....

I then removed the (not useful) path setting.... (it is still shown here).
You will see that "Pd documents directory" is disabled...... probably due to the -noprefs switch.

I added (first switch) -lib libdir to the batch file and now most libraries are added (but none will create), even copying your upload to other folders. I cannot be absolutely certain that windows is not keeping tabs on the changing path though.
With -noprefs -lib ibdir my other installs and portable versions of Pd are not having their prefs and paths overwritten though.
That is very good news.
Here are the libs that are still not loading..... but that is as far as I have gone for now.

Here is the updated batch file that works for me........... (at the bottom)
BUT...... the full path to the library folders needs to be specified for any object to actually create.
Just adding the extra folder does not work.
So in the batch below only cyclone will actually work even though the other object classes have been registered.
You might have ideas about why the iem libraries will not load (I think the executable needs to be specified)..
You can maybe try this new batch file yourself...... and find another tester to double-check....
BUT ANOTHER BUT ...... the path setting will be wrong...... I will try to work out how to get around that. The tcl has path variables that can maybe be set with a tcl plugin.
It is probable that removing the -noprefs switch will solve these problems, but an existing Pd user running your batch file would curse you as they tried to recover their old working Pd........
David.

pd-0.48.1_windows_xp_or_later\bin\pd.exe -path C:\Users\David\Desktop\pd-vanilla_0.48.1_for-windows_with_externals\pd-windows\pd-0.48.1_windows_xp_or_later\extra\cyclone -noprefs -lib libdir -lib cyclone -lib zexy -lib creb -lib cxc -lib iemlib -lib list-abs -lib mapping -lib markex -lib maxlib -lib mjlib -lib motex -lib oscx -lib pddp -lib pdogg -lib pmpd -lib sigpack -lib smlib -lib unauthorized -lib pan -lib hcs -lib jmmmp -lib ext13 -lib ggee -lib iem_anything -lib ekext -lib flatgui -lib chaos -lib zexy/0x260x260x7e -lib zexy/0x2e -lib zexy/0x3c0x7e -lib zexy/0x3d0x3d0x7e -lib zexy/0x3e0x7e -lib zexy/0x7c0x7c0x7e

The ultimate solution is probably to destroy the directory tree...... moving every file into the Pd /bin folder.

the batch file i included was an exact copy of the one included in extended the only diff being the path\to\pd.exe and the -open mainpatch.pd at the end.
the font is not needed and attempting to change font incorrectly in Preferences/Startup seems to break things.

out of curiosity did mainpatch.pd open using the batchfile?

" the full path to the library folders needs to be specified for any object to actually create."

but just to confirm the included ones actually do create if you do so?

about the batchfile:
what if the folder is placed in a directory like the Applications folder? don't know where that is on windows, is there some equivalent?

on linux if you place the program in a directory that is recognized by default for example /usr/lib/ (*edit wrong directory)
then when creating a.desktop file i don't think you have to use the full path.

and can use for example:

Exec=pd

..... "the full path to the library folders needs to be specified for any object to actually create.
Just adding the extra folder does not work."

is this true even if you start pd without the batchfile and add extra to Preferences/Startup manually? then use declare -lib in a patch when necessary?

p.s. if you move some files /(an external) into Pd/bin does that actually work?

youaresound

Reply to pd-extended included externals on windows on Mon, 23 Apr 2018 13:25:47 GMT

@youaresound Mainpatch.pd (which I see now in the extra folder) is not mentioned in the batch file you uploaded.
It is quite easy to open a patch once Pd is loaded with e.g. -open Mainpatch.pd if it is in the same folder as the batch file.

Yes, I set the full path to the cyclone folder, and then the objects would create.

The "install" folder on windows would be "C:\Program Files (x86)\pd" as it is a 32-bit program.
The "install" version has paths set, but puts its prefs files in the registry, and goes looking for objects in folders that it has not put them in........ some sort of legacy stuff I think.

I will try putting one of the libs in Pd/bin and see what happens.
Paths are always the biggest problem with all flavours of Pd, although it's a useful problem when you want to be able to run different versions.

It could be a good idea to put your batch file in the bin folder, and use a shortcut pointed at it from the "pd-windows" folder. Then you would not need to specify the path even to pd.exe, and there is a chance that the libraries would function...... although that is a long shot (and no, it doesn't help the libs).
I will mess about more later.
David.

but only if the patch is saved to the bin directory.
does this work for you?

declare-help.pd says

-stdlib load a library, relative to Pd

"if you have files installed in the directory extra/stillmore (in the Pd installation) you can get it using "declare -stdpath stillmore"
